Philip has another musical life as a member of Canary in the Coalmine, an Americana Folk Band.
What do you want patrons of the Symphony to know about you?
Though I enjoy verbal and written communication, I find words ultimately cumbersome and limiting. Music is my best way of connecting directly, intimately and fully with others.
What would you be doing if you weren’t a professional musician?
Some sort of mechanical engineering or design - possibly automotive or robotics. Or be a ski bum.
What do you do in your spare time (other than practice!)?
Run, hike, cook, ski, fence, tinker with cars and all things mechanical, study philosophy.
What is your favorite thing about being a professional musician?
Performing. Every performance is an opportunity to connect with the audience and share something unique and special.
What is your favorite food?
Pasta and noodles!
Who is your favorite composer?
If I had to pick just one fav composer, it would be Mozart.
What’s currently on your Ipod?
Rachel Barton Pine: The Complete Mozart Violin Concertos
Jason Carter: On the Move
Grandpa's Cough Medicine: 180 Proof
